Tell me a story

1–2 minutes

To read

Tell me a story
Of how
Odomankoma, the creator,
Created the earth and the sky.
Of the mysteries that made
The seas depart the earth, his wife.

Tell me of that land
Where Odomankoma made the black man.
And of the treasures,
His gift to that man

Tell me
Tell me of that stranger, the white man
Who arrived on the coast of the innocent black man
Trading unthreatenly in peace and serenity
Teaching moral values
As if he knew one himself.

Tell me
Of his “faithfulness and protectiveness”
Of his betrayal and injustice
Which fuel his prejudice

Tell me
Of the slave trade
The Mau Mau
Wars and conflicts
Which accompanied his greed and envy

Tell me
Oh! Spirits of the yonder
Of that hero in Ghana
Who brought their tasks asunder
And gave to his people
The gift of manna
Tell the story of Madiba
Who destroyed the boundaries of apartheid
Tell me of Azania
Abyssinian and Mauritanian

And when the stories have been told
My soul shall rejoice with my foes
